Privacy Policy
Last reviewed: 5th June 2026
This policy explains what personal data In Like A Whippet collects when you visit inlikeawhippet.co.uk or get in touch, why we collect it, how we use it, and your rights over it.
Who we are
In Like A Whippet Limited (trading as In Like A Whippet) is a digital marketing consultancy registered in England and Wales. Company number: 17008720. Registered office: 13, Arbour Square, London, E1 0SH. VAT number: 514129910.
For the purposes of UK GDPR, we are the data controller for personal data processed through this website. You can contact us about anything in this policy at info@inlikeawhippet.co.uk.
The personal data we collect
We collect personal data in three ways.
When you submit a contact form. The form asks for your name, email address, the company you work for, and your message. We store these submissions in our website database and copy them into our CRM (Mailchimp). We use this data to reply to you and, where you opt in, to follow up about how we might work together.
When you email us directly. If you send us an email, we receive your email address, your name, and whatever you write. We store the correspondence in our email system for as long as the business relationship is live, plus a reasonable retention period afterwards (see “How long we keep data”).
When you browse the site. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site. This collects your IP address (anonymised), the pages you view, how you arrived, what browser and device you use, and how long you stay. Analytics only fires after you have given consent via the cookie banner. See our Cookie Notice for more.
We do not collect special category data (race, religion, health, etc.). We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
Our lawful basis for processing
Under UK GDPR, we rely on the following lawful bases.
Legitimate interests. For responding to enquiries you have sent us, for following up on commercial conversations you have initiated, and for keeping records of correspondence with current and former clients. This is the basis for most of our processing. The legitimate interest is operating and growing our consultancy; we have balanced it against your privacy rights and judged it proportionate.
Consent. For non-essential cookies (analytics) — you can withdraw consent at any time via the cookie settings link in our footer.
Contract. For data processed in the course of delivering paid work to you, once a contract is in place — though the contract itself usually places us in a data processor role, not controller. See “If you become a client” below.
Legal obligation. For data we keep to satisfy HMRC, Companies House, or other regulatory requirements (e.g. invoicing records).
Who we share your data with
We share data only with our service providers, who process it on our behalf under written agreements.
- Mailchimp — stores contact form submissions and our records of correspondence. Mailchimp processes data in the United States under standard contractual clauses and the UK extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
- Ionos — hosts the website and its database. Data is held in the UK.
- Google (for Google Analytics 4) — processes anonymised usage data. GA4 data is transferred to the United States under Google’s standard contractual clauses and the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
- Email provider (Google Workspace) — hosts the email account that receives your messages.
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with third parties for their own marketing. We do not transfer it outside the UK / EEA except as described above for Google Analytics and Mailchimp.
How long we keep data
| Data | Retention |
|---|---|
| Contact form submissions (no follow-up commercial conversation) | 12 months from submission |
| Contact form submissions (where a commercial conversation followed) | Duration of the conversation plus 24 months |
| Email correspondence with prospects and clients | Duration of the relationship plus 6 years (in line with general UK contract limitation periods) |
| Google Analytics 4 data | 14 months (the default GA4 retention setting) |
| Invoicing and accounting records | 6 years (HMRC requirement) |
After these periods, data is deleted or fully anonymised.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the following rights over your personal data: the right to be informed (this policy is part of how we meet that right); the right of access (ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you); the right to rectification; the right to erasure, subject to our legitimate interests and legal retention obligations; the right to restrict processing; the right to data portability; the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests; and rights relating to automated decision-making and profiling — we do not use automated decision-making in any way that produces legal or similarly significant effects, so this right is not engaged.
To exercise any of these rights, email info@inlikeawhippet.co.uk. We respond within one calendar month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would prefer the chance to put things right first, but the right to complain is yours unconditionally.
Cookies
Our use of cookies is covered in our Cookie Notice. In summary: strictly necessary cookies (which keep the site functional) are always on; analytics cookies (Google Analytics 4) fire only after you have consented via the banner.
If you become a client
When we deliver paid consulting work, we sometimes process personal data on your behalf — for example, customer records inside your CRM as part of an audit, or your team’s contact details for a campaign. In those cases we act as a data processor under your instructions, governed by the data processing terms in our engagement contract.
The website privacy policy you are reading covers only the data we collect through the website itself. See also How I work with your data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be flagged at the top of this page and dated. Minor changes (clarifications, typo fixes) may be made without notice. The last reviewed date at the top tells you when we last updated this version.
