New media meets old media

Following the Internet browser wars rumbling away including Google vs Microsoft other traditional Internet only businesses have taken to producing TV adverts.

Facebook launched its first brand building television advertisement in the US to celebrate hitting 1 billion users . The advert comparing chairs to Facebook. Fighting the vomit back when the lines “that’s why Chairs are like Facebook” the advert is a really cool creation by the agency Widen + Kennedy.

But Facebook isn’t the only Internet giant to be upping their traditional media spend with Amazon and eBay getting in on the act as we run into the most important buying festival Christmas. Ebay recently unveiled a new simpler logo and a TV advert soon followed.

Amazon points out how in its beginning the tought of buying something online and having it delivered was thought of as wierd, where now its normal. Whats not so nornal was Amazon opening a bricks and mortar store on Oxford Street last Christmas.

As the number of accounts become less important, and active users being the new buzz word are the internet giants tunring to more traditional advertising method’s to remind its audience tha tthey are still there and they should check them out. At the end of the day any creative advertising is good in my book, so long may they spend some of those hard owned Internet pounds between the breaks of X Factor.
